The Children Act 1989 recognises every child's right to be part of a community that is free from racial discrimination, values different
backgrounds and fosters a sense of identity.
The Act requires local authorities to have regard to the different racial groups
of children in need within their area in arranging for the provision of daycare.
With this is in mind, STAR developed a set of
aims and objectives.
The Aims of STAR
STAR aims to advance the education and care of children under eight by:
- working for racial equality in the education and childcare of under-eights
- developing an awareness of racist issues as they affect under-eights
- influencing the training of under-eights workers and their trainers
- reaching parents, encouraging anti-racist approaches through partnership
- educating ourselves and supporting each other as parents, under-eights
workers and trainers
- enabling adults to meet the requirements of the Children Act 1989
The Objectives of STAR
- to offer training courses for under-eights workers and
parents
- to provide a support and advice centre
- the provision of a multicultural resource library
- the provision of a reference library for adults
- to offer a forum for discussion
Charitable Objectives
- To work towards the elimination of discrimination.
- To promote equality of opportunity and good relations between persons of different racial groups in particular by educating parents, under-eights workers and trainers.
