1. Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Integrating positive image resources in pre-school play and activities will help
you work towards the ELG in Knowledge and Understanding of the World:
"begin to know about their own cultures and beliefs and
those of other people".
This is a key goal with respect to race awareness education. Plan activities, which will encourage young
children to talk and learn about the multiracial world, in which they live and can be used as stepping stones towards this goal.
2.
Mathematics
Jigsaws such as Rede’s multiracial ‘Ten in the Bed’ give children a fun way of demonstrating their understanding
of numbers – another way of working towards the Mathematics ELG:
"count reliably to ten".
3. Communication,
Language and Literacy
Making some simple hand puppets using people tone paper or felt and encouraging the children to re-tell
or make up their own stories using the puppet/figures is a good way to develop children’s language and to work towards the ELG Communication,
Language and Literacy:
‘"re-tell narratives in the correct sequence".
4. Personal Social and Emotional Development
It
is important to encourage the children to ask questions and appreciate the similarities and differences between people, while working
towards the ELG Personal Social and Emotional Development:
"understand that people have different needs, views, cultures and
beliefs, that need to be treated with respect".
Incorporating a variety of cooking utensils, such as play woks and a dressing
up clothes such as saris and shalwar kameez will help children understand the various cultures of families living in Britain today.
